Continuing Education Center
The Clintondale Continuing Education Center operates as a subdivision of the regular K-12 program. It is designed for students who can be better served in an alternative system. Students served include those who have specific needs and are often at risk of not graduating. Our alternative education programs seek to provide added flexibility and alternative instructional models. These often include expanded services from the traditional setting such as online learning, institutional programs, counseling, childcare, and transportation.
CURRICULUM
The curriculum provided by Clintondale Community Schools for our alternative programs at the Clintondale Continuing Education Center align with the state academic standards. The Michigan Merit Curriculum is the framework used for designing instructional activities, lessons, assessments, and additional knowledge valued by our community. The curriculum provides a platform for state assessments, which are used to measure how well schools are providing academic practices.
Courses
English Language Arts, Math, Business, Health, Physical Education, Career Exploration, History & Social Sciences, CTE Pathways, Test Prep, Science, Finance, STEM, Advanced Placement, Fine Arts, World Languages.
EVIDENCE-BASED INSTRUCTIONAL APPROACH
The most effective and well-researched instructional principles are incorporated into our curriculum to provide an engaging and personalized learning environment for students. The lessons within the courses share the following characteristics of research-based best practices and standards-based instruction:
- Learning outcomes are defined by standards-aligned learning objectives.
- Lessons are divided into small learning units each with clearly defined objectives.
- Lessons may be customized by the teacher and individually assigned.
- Learning resources are relevant and appropriate instructional strategies employed.
- Each unit includes formative and summative assessments that measure the student’s entry level knowledge and developing progress.
- Students receive immediate feedback to act as reinforcement and motivation.
POLICIES
- Students must communicate with their mentor at least once a week.
- Students must make progress in their courses weekly.
- Students must earn a minimum of two credits (four classes) to graduate from the alternative education program/cyber school.
- Students are responsible for communicating their needs to their mentor.
- Students must participate in testing and assessments as mandated by the Michigan Department of Education.
- Students who do not make progress in their courses or keep contact with their mentor on a weekly basis will be dropped from the program.
SCHEDULING
Our alternative programs follow the Clintondale Calendar as a guide for semester start and end dates, breaks, and reporting policies, however the students are able to work at their own pace within these guidelines. Due to the nature of our alternative programs, students may begin or finish courses based on their needs. Some students may finish courses before the semester end date, and begin new ones sooner, while other students may continue to work on incomplete first semester courses during the second semester. Students have the flexibility to schedule school around other commitments, and are able to work on their courses 24 hours a day/7 days a week.

ATTENDANCE
Students earn attendance through weekly two-way contact with their mentor. Students are responsible for maintaining the two-way contact with their mentor via email, phone call, or text message.
HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATION
Students must earn a minimum of 20 credits to graduate, and at least two credits from a Clintondale program to graduate from Clintondale Community Schools. Students are welcome to participate in a graduation ceremony that ensures the same benefits of a traditional high school graduation with cap, gown, tassel, matted diploma and case, the presence of the Superintendent, and Board of Education, and their teachers.
